Peptide Research Glossary
Plain-English definitions of the terms you'll meet when working with research peptides — from COA and HPLC to reconstitution and lyophilisation. Every product we list is supplied for laboratory research use only.
- Research peptide
- A short chain of amino acids supplied strictly for laboratory and in-vitro research. Not intended for human or veterinary use.
- Peptide
- A molecule made of two or more amino acids joined by peptide bonds; shorter than a full protein.
- Amino acid
- The building-block molecules that link in sequence to form peptides and proteins.
- Peptide bond
- The covalent bond linking the carboxyl group of one amino acid to the amino group of the next.
- Sequence
- The specific order of amino acids in a peptide, which defines its identity and properties.
- Certificate of Analysis (COA)
- A laboratory document reporting a batch's identity and purity, typically from HPLC and mass spectrometry. Every AllMyPeptides batch ships with a matching COA.
- HPLC
- High-Performance Liquid Chromatography — the standard analytical method used to measure peptide purity.
- Mass spectrometry
- An analytical technique that confirms a peptide's molecular weight and identity.
- Purity
- The percentage of the target peptide present in a sample. AllMyPeptides peptides are tested to 99%+ purity.
- Lyophilised
- Freeze-dried into a stable powder for shipping and storage; also spelt lyophilized.
- Reconstitution
- Dissolving a lyophilised peptide in a suitable solvent, such as bacteriostatic water, before research use.
- Bacteriostatic water
- Sterile water containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol, commonly used to reconstitute peptides for research.
- mg / mcg
- Milligram and microgram — units describing the mass of peptide supplied per vial.
- Secretagogue
- A compound that signals the release of another substance; growth-hormone secretagogues are studied in growth-axis research.
- GHRP / GHRH
- Growth-hormone-releasing peptide and growth-hormone-releasing hormone — classes of compounds studied in growth-axis research.
- Melanocortin
- A receptor system studied in pigmentation research; the Melanotan compounds act on this pathway in research models.
- Nootropic
- Relating to cognitive-function research; peptides such as Semax and Selank are studied in this context.
- Blend (stack)
- A single vial combining two or more peptides in fixed ratios, used to streamline multi-compound research.
- Vial
- The sealed glass container that holds the lyophilised peptide.
- Cold chain
- Temperature-controlled handling and storage used to preserve peptide stability.
- Batch (lot)
- A single production run of a peptide; each batch has its own Certificate of Analysis.
- Third-party testing
- Independent laboratory verification of a peptide's identity and purity.
- Angiogenesis
- The formation of new blood vessels — a process frequently referenced in tissue-repair research literature.
- Research use only
