How to Reconstitute Research Peptides: Step-by-Step Guide

What You Will Need

Before reconstituting your peptide, gather the following supplies:

  • Lyophilised peptide vial
  • Bacteriostatic water (not sterile water)
  • U-100 insulin syringe (1ml recommended)
  • Alcohol prep pads
  • Sharps disposal container

Work in a clean environment. A laminar flow hood is ideal, but a clean bench wiped with alcohol is sufficient for most research applications.

Reconstitution Steps

Follow these steps carefully:

  1. Clean the stoppers: Wipe both the bacteriostatic water vial and peptide vial stoppers with an alcohol prep pad.
  2. Draw the water: Pull back the syringe plunger to draw air equal to the amount of water you will add. Insert the needle into the bacteriostatic water vial and inject the air. Turn the vial upside down and withdraw the desired volume.
  3. Inject slowly: Insert the needle into the peptide vial at an angle. Inject the water slowly down the inside wall of the vial. Never spray water directly onto the powder — this can damage the peptide structure.
  4. Dissolve gently: Allow the water to run down the sides and wet the powder. Swirl gently — do not shake or vortex vigorously.
  5. Wait: Some peptides dissolve instantly; others may take a few minutes. Do not force dissolution.

After Reconstitution

Once fully dissolved:

  • Label the vial with the peptide name, concentration, and reconstitution date
  • Store at 2-8°C (refrigerator)
  • Use within 30 days
  • Do not freeze
  • Keep away from direct light

Most peptides will produce a clear solution. If the solution remains cloudy or contains visible particles after 10 minutes of gentle swirling, do not use it — contact your supplier.
